15ºC - 28ºC

Less than 3 hours from Europe's main capitals

Located on the west coast of Portugal, on the estuary of the Tagus (Tejo) River, Lisbon is the largest city and the capital of Portugal, with about 3 million people living in the metropolitan area.

Overall, Lisbon is a sunny city, in fact, it is one of the sunniest places in southern Europe, with dry and hot summers that can reach 35ºC (although, at that time the average temperatures are around 28ºC). In the winter months, Lisbon tends to see rainfall with temperatures between 15 and 16ºC (the coldest average temperature is in January, with 11°C).

But Lisbon's privileged geographical location does not only bring benefits in terms of temperature, since it is possible to reach the major European capitals in less than 3 hours from Lisbon airport. Lisbon's airport is only 7km from the city center and it only takes 20m to get there by bus.

Lisbon is known for the number of amazing things to see and do, but it also possesses a fascinating history and a rich culture, that goes from the time it was called Olissipo by the Romans, in the eighth century BC, until its reconstruction coordinate by the Marquis of Pombal, after the earthquake in 1755.

The culture and traditional heritage of Lisbon is still visible today in its monuments, old buildings and, of course, in Lisboetas (people from Lisbon) souls.

Lisbon is probably the city in the world with the most tile-covered building facades. The so-called Portuguese “Azulejos” are everywhere: belvederes, viewpoints, churches, palaces, museums, metro stations…! Search for these wonderful glazes tiles and see how Lisbon was before the 1755 earthquake.

Fado (Latin for fate) is a popular genre of music in Portugal and one of Portugal’s most amazing heritages. It’s commonly associated with feelings of love, sadness and saudade (a Portuguese word that refers to a state of deep longing, melancholy and nostalgia). Don’t leave Lisbon without experience this traditional and emotional style of music.
