1 - A little about the history of Campo de Ourique...

The Campo de Ourique neighborhood, once the land of farms belonging to Campolide, was born out of an emblematic plan to improve the city of Lisbon, and was one of the first urban plans to be implemented.

When the neighborhood plan was drawn up, two notable structures were already there: the Campo de Ourique Barracks, strategically placed there for the defense of the capital, with a privileged view of the Monsanto mountain range, and the Prazeres Cemetery. 

The process of building the neighborhood began in April 1879, under the responsibility of engineer Frederico Ressano Garcia, and it was precisely on the edge of the barracks that the first block was built.

3 - Why choose to live in Campo de Ourique?

Living in Campo de Ourique is like living in a small town within Lisbon. This neighbourhood, which is both residential and highly commercial, is characterized by its lively streets.
 

In Campo de Ourique there is quantity and quality. As you walk around the neighborhood, you'll find all kinds of stores - cafés, pastry stores, restaurants, grocery stores and art gallerys, forming a wide variety for a shopping experience. It is also home to some of the best schools and colleges in the city, such as the "Liceu Pedro Nunes" and the "Salesianos de Lisboa".

Campo de Ourique is very well located, in the center of the triangle formed by Amoreiras, Estrela and Prazeres. Just an 11-minute walk from Amoreiras Shopping Center and a 15-minute walk from Jardim da Estrela.

The famous streetcar 28, which runs through Lisbon's historic neighborhoods, has its last stop here, next to the Prazeres Cemetery. 

Several streetcars and buses pass through the streets of Campo de Ourique throughout the day. In three years' time, the neighborhood will also have a metro station.
 

What to see and do in Campo de Ourique?

Jardim da Parada (or Jardim Teófilo de Braga) is the neighborhood's meeting point. 
This garden has a children's playground, a bandstand and a pond and has an interesting plant heritage, with four classified trees. The garden also has a kiosk with a terrace where you can enjoy a hamburger and the Lisbon weather.

The Campo de Ourique Market is one of Lisbon's oldest markets. Opened in 1934, it was given a "new look" in 2014, inspired by the San Miguel Market in Madrid. Today the Mercado de Campo de Ourique offers gourmet experiences, with several gastronomic kiosks - in addition to the traditional fresh produce stalls.

Inhabited by the writer during the last 15 years of his life, between 1920 and 1935, today it is a museum whose mission is to conserve, preserve and disseminate his legacy. Divided into three floors, here you'll find an exhibition displaying objects, furniture and documents belonging to the poet, as well as two libraries - one of which is the writer's Private Library, which has around 1,300 titles in total and is Casa Fernando Pessoa's greatest asset.

Free entry: on Sundays and public holidays until 2pm for residents of the municipality of Lisbon

Located in Casa Fernando Pessoa, the restaurant Livro do Desassossego serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. The menu includes proposals inspired by international dishes, using national and seasonal products whenever possible. 
Curiosity. Did you know that Fernando Pessoa was a big fan of cheese and cod? It's true, and the menu has been carefully selected to pay homage to the poet's tastes! - "Shredded Pork & Serra da Estrela Cheese" and "Bacalhau Maria in the Oven with Pesto" are some of the restaurant's options. What's more, the very name of the restaurant refers to one of Pessoa's most important works, signed by the semi-heteronymous Bernardo Soares.
