Parque das Nações is the most recent part of Lisbon, and its creation was linked to the 1998 World Exhibition (Expo 98), an event commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese Discoveries, known for catapulting Portugal into modernity.

Before that date, the area consisted of dozens of suburban, industrialized and semi-abandoned hectares, with huge environmental and landscape problems. 

The Parque das Nações project was born after the city of Lisbon beat Toronto in the fight to host the exhibition, and was conceived and developed as a revalorization of the city with the river.

Construction began in 1993 and some say it was only finished on the eve of the exhibition's opening day - May 22, 1998. In addition to the largest Oceanarium in the world, the Gare do Oriente was created here.

The exhibition lasted 132 days and received millions of visitors, and was considered by the Bureau International des Expositions to be the best international exhibition ever.

After Expo 1998, Parque das Nações evolved into an excellent residential area with magnificent infrastructures and a wide range of shopping, cultural and leisure facilities.

A project that started from scratch, in a totally marginalized area, and which today is a world example of urban regeneration!

Construction began in 1993 and some say it was only finished on the eve of the exhibition's opening day - May 22, 1998. In addition to the largest Oceanarium in the world, the Gare do Oriente was created here.

The exhibition lasted 132 days and received millions of visitors, and was considered by the Bureau International des Expositions to be the best international exhibition ever.

After Expo 1998, Parque das Nações evolved into an excellent residential area with magnificent infrastructures and a wide range of shopping, cultural and leisure facilities.

A project that started from scratch, in a totally marginalized area, and which today is a world example of urban regeneration!

a. Architecture in Parque das Nações

The contemporary architecture of Parque das Nações is already part of Lisbon's heritage.

Among the buildings that stand out are the Pavilhão de Portugal, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira; the Pavilhão Atlântico, designed by Regino Cruz; and the Gare do Oriente, designed by Santiago Calatrava.

The São Rafael and São Gabriel Towers also stand out in the Parque das Nações landscape. They were designed by José Quintela and represent two boats heading towards the river.

The contemporary architecture of Parque das Nações is already part of Lisbon's heritage.

Among the buildings that stand out are the Pavilhão de Portugal, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira; the Pavilhão Atlântico, designed by Regino Cruz; and the Gare do Oriente, designed by Santiago Calatrava.

In Campo de Ourique there is quantity and quality. As you walk around the neighborhood, you'll find all kinds of stores - cafés, pastry stores, restaurants, grocery stores and a variety of stores. It is also home to some of the best schools and colleges in the city, such as the "Liceu Pedro Nunes" and the "Salesianos de Lisboa".

Campo de Ourique is very well located, in the center of the triangle formed by Amoreiras, Estrela and Prazeres. Just an 11-minute walk from Amoreiras Shopping Center and a 15-minute walk from Jardim da Estrela.

The famous streetcar 28, which runs through Lisbon's historic neighborhoods, has its last stop here, next to the Prazeres Cemetery. 

Several streetcars and buses pass through the streets of Campo de Ourique throughout the day. In three years' time, the neighborhood will also have a metro station.

As the name suggests, the specialty here is cod! With dishes by Chef Júlio Fernandes, at D'Bacalhau the cuisine is characterized by Portuguese gastronomy, with special emphasis on its "faithful friend" - cod! Come and try one of the fourteen dishes where this "fish from distant waters" is king, or order the famous "Misto de Bacalhau" - a platter for 2 or 4 people that includes cod "à lagareiro", cod with cream, cod "à brás" and cod with "broa".
