Synonymous with luxury, leisure and quality of life, Vale do Lobo is an unrivaled destination of choice for all visitors to the Algarve region. But did you know that this is Portugal's oldest resort?

That's right, with a success story spanning more than 55 years, Vale do Lobo was the first resort of its kind in the Algarve (and in Portugal).

The history of Vale do Lobo dates back to 1962, when the project was founded by two well-known multinationals - Trusthouse Forte plc and Costain plc.

Seeing the potential of this location on the south coast of Portugal, the companies decided to invest in the construction of a luxury resort, harmonizing the natural beauty of the area with a sophisticated lifestyle.

The main focus was to provide residents and visitors with an exclusive experience, offering high quality services and amenities.

The first phase of the development was completed in 1968, with the inauguration of the Ocean golf course - designed by legendary golfer Sir Henry Cotton.

The next chapter in Vale do Lobo's history began with the visit of Dutch businessman Sander Van Gelder in the 1970s. He immediately fell in love with the place and moved to Portugal in 1977. Van Gelder remained in charge of the resort for 30 years (1977-2007).

Over the last few years, Vale do Lobo has undergone constant expansion and improvements, including the addition of a new golf course, the "Royal Golf Course" (1997).

Today, Vale do Lobo is one of the most important luxury real estate and tourism developments in Europe.

What to see and do in Vale do Lobo?

Praia do Vale do Lobo is known for its great natural beauty, with an imposing (and long) red cliff as its trademark, separating it from the resort's famous golf courses. This beach has more than 2 kilometers of golden sand and offers a wide range of excellent services and facilities, such as bars, restaurants, concession areas with sunbed/umbrella rental and water sports facilities. In addition, Praia do Vale do Lobo has been awarded the Blue Flag, making it ideal for families.
