Quality of Life

International recognition

Portugal has been rewarded many times for its quality of life and favorable conditions for investment:

"One of the best countries to do business" - World Bank / Forbes
"Portuguese are the 7th most welcoming people in the world" - CNN report on country friendliness
"Portugal, best destination for golfer" - World Travel Awards, 2013
"Algarve, best destination to enjoy the beach" - World Travel Awards 2013

Quality of infrastructure

Wherever you are the sea is always close to you in Portugal, the Atlantic borders from north to south coast of the country. The reviving air of the sea is undoubtedly one of the great assets of the country!

You are always near an airport, there are three international ones that gives direct access to other European countries as well as to the Americas (North and South!) And Africa.

The road network is very dense and of very good quality (European funds have helped these last 15 years ...)

Cost of Life

The purchasing power of a Expat in Portugal increases significantly. To realize it just sit at a terrace of coffee and order a tasting for 4 people ... 0.6 euros coffee, 1 euro a beer, 0.7 euros a pastel natal! For restaurants, it's the same, lunch in a typical non-tourist restaurant for Portuguese, you can have lunch, starter dessert coffee and wine for 5 to 7 euros ... We quickly get used to go out in Portugal and it's very normal!

Fruits and vegetables, fish or meat are cheaper in Portugal, while yogurt and cheese are more expensive, the rest is substantially the same.

Food and Wine
The Portuguese culinary culture is recognised for its quality products and its gastronomy rich in seafood and local meats. Wine from the regions of Porto, Douro and Alentejo also enjoys a certain notoriety in the oenological environment.

Time

300 days of sunshine a year over 365 days? It is possible in the south of the country. The further you go up north and less sun will be, however conditions remain largely favorable.

The winters are mild in the south and around Lisbon and a little rainier in the north or the surrounding greenery of this region!

In the Alentejo or the hinterland of the Algarve, temperatures are around 40 ° C in summer ... at 8pm. Even by the sea, the nap is recommended between 12h and 16h ... to avoid the hot weather.

A more temperate climate can be found in the north or around Lisbon.
